How to Get to and from Bohinj
Bohinj is not just a lake on a map. It is an alpine valley with villages, mountains, railway connections, Lake Bohinj, Triglav National Park and several very different arrival points.
Bohinjska Bistrica, Ribčev Laz, Stara Fužina and Ukanc are all “Bohinj”, but they are not the same transport destination.
This guide brings together the main ways to travel to Bohinj and from Bohinj: regular bus, train, shared shuttle, GoOpti, rental car, local taxi and pre-booked private transfer.
Bled gets more postcards. Bohinj gets more mountains.
Lake Bohinj lies in one of Slovenia's most impressive alpine landscapes, surrounded by forests, villages and the peaks of Triglav National Park.
Bohinjska Bistrica is the main transport centre. Ribčev Laz sits at the eastern end of the lake. Stara Fužina is a traditional village north of the lake. Ukanc lies deeper in the valley at the western end, near Vogel.
That geography is important when planning transport. “Transfer to Bohinj” can mean several additional kilometres depending on where your hotel or apartment actually is.
The good news: Bohinj is remote enough to feel special, but not remote enough to be difficult to reach.
