How to Get to and from Bled

Lake Bled is one of Slovenia's best-known destinations, but getting there is much easier than the postcard scenery might suggest.

Bled sits in the Gorenjska region, close to the Julian Alps and relatively close to Ljubljana Airport. It is well positioned for journeys towards Ljubljana, Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, Austria, Italy and Croatia.

This guide brings together the practical ways to travel to Bled and from Bled: regular bus, train, shared shuttle, rental car, local taxi and pre-booked private transfer.

How to travel to and from Bled Slovenia

Bled is small. Its transport connections are not.

Lake Bled, Bled Castle, Bled Island and the surrounding Alps make the town look like a place hidden deep in the mountains.

In reality, Bled is one of the easiest Alpine destinations in Slovenia to reach.

Ljubljana Airport is relatively close, Ljubljana has regular public transport connections, Austria lies north through the Karawanks, Italy is west and Bohinj lies farther into the Julian Alps.

That makes Bled not only a destination, but also a useful starting point for travelling around Slovenia and neighbouring countries.

Come for the lake. Then discover that a surprising amount of Slovenia is within easy reach.

Transport options to and from Bled

🚌

Regular bus

Bled has useful regular bus connections, especially with Ljubljana and nearby towns in Gorenjska.

For travellers with light luggage and no strict arrival time, bus is often the cheapest practical option.

Often best for budget travel
🚆

Train

The phrase “Bled railway station” needs a little explanation.

Lesce-Bled lies several kilometres from Lake Bled on the main railway corridor towards Ljubljana, Jesenice and Austria.

Bled Jezero is on the western side of Lake Bled on the Bohinj railway.

Depending on your journey, one station can make considerably more sense than the other.

Two different railway options
🚐

GoOpti / shared shuttle

Shared shuttle services are worth checking for airport and international journeys.

For one or two passengers, a shared seat can sometimes cost considerably less than hiring an entire private vehicle.

Compare the actual pickup window, final destination and service type for your travel date.

Worth checking for solo travellers
🚗

Rental car

Bled is a convenient starting point for a road trip.

Bohinj, Pokljuka, Kranjska Gora, Ljubljana and several Alpine valleys can easily be combined by car.

Parking close to Lake Bled can become busy, especially during the main tourist season, so check your accommodation parking arrangements.

Best for exploring independently
🚖

Local taxi

For immediate local journeys around Bled, Lesce, Radovljica, Jesenice or nearby Gorenjska, a locally based taxi is normally the most practical solution.

Best for short local journeys

Pre-booked private transfer

Private transport becomes most useful for airport travel, longer-distance routes, families, groups and passengers with luggage.

Pickup time, vehicle and final price can all be agreed before the journey.

Best for planned door-to-door travel

Lesce-Bled or Bled Jezero?

🚆 Lesce-Bled

Lesce-Bled station is not beside Lake Bled. It is located in Lesce, several kilometres from central Bled.

It is useful for trains on the main railway corridor between Ljubljana, Jesenice and Austria.

From the station, you still need a bus, taxi or another road connection into Bled.

🚂 Bled Jezero

Bled Jezero station lies on the western side of Lake Bled.

It belongs to the scenic Bohinj railway towards Bohinjska Bistrica, Most na Soči and Nova Gorica.

For some journeys through western Slovenia, Bled Jezero can make more sense than Lesce-Bled.

So “take the train to Bled” is not quite the whole instruction. The useful station depends on where you are coming from.

A fair note about local transfers around Bled

We can arrange shorter journeys from Bled to places such as Bohinj, Jesenice, Radovljica, Kranjska Gora and nearby villages.

But Taxi Legende is based in Ljubljana.

For an immediate short local journey, a taxi already based in Bled or elsewhere in Gorenjska will usually be faster and may also be cheaper.

Taxi Legende makes most sense for planned airport, longer-distance and cross-border journeys.

Shared shuttle or direct booking?

A shared shuttle can sometimes be the cheapest comfortable option, especially for one or two passengers.

Taxi Legende is a direct booking. Before pickup, we can confirm the driver, vehicle and registration number.

So after a flight you know which vehicle you are actually looking for.

And if a phone, wallet, bag, jacket or suitcase remains in the vehicle, you know who drove you and who to contact.

A shared seat and a reserved private vehicle are two different products.

The Legende rule

We are not the Bled “five minutes, please” taxi

“Hi, we're at Lake Bled. Can you be here in ten minutes?”

That would require a significantly faster Mercedes. 😄

Taxi Legende is based in Ljubljana and works mainly with advance-booked transfers.

If you need a vehicle immediately around Bled, a local taxi or another available service will usually be the better solution.

Where our system makes more sense is:

“Tomorrow at 06:00, hotel in Bled, 3 passengers, 4 suitcases, Ljubljana Airport.”

Then the driver, vehicle, route, pickup time and price can all be arranged before departure.

Known route. Known car. Known price. No “now-now”.

Taxi Legende is part of Legende Travel .

Many follow. Few lead. Real legends are rare.

Ljubljana airport landing - Welcome January-18-2014
When arriving in Slovenia by plane, most travellers land at the country’s main international gateway – Ljubljana Airport (Jože Pučnik Airport Brnik). After landing, one of the first questions is how to get from Ljubljana Airport to your final destination. Whether you are travelling to Ljubljana city, Bled, Bohinj or the Slovenian coast, there are several transport options available. 1.
