How to Travel from Ljubljana
Ljubljana is not only Slovenia's capital. It is also the country's main transport crossroads and one of the easiest places from which to continue around Slovenia.
From Ljubljana you can travel towards Bled, Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, the Slovenian coast, Maribor, Celje, Zagreb and many other destinations by bus, train, rental car, taxi or private transfer.
Some routes have excellent public transport. Others become much easier by road. The right answer depends on where you are going, how much luggage you have, how many people are travelling and what time you need to arrive.
Slovenia is small, but its landscape changes quickly.
From Ljubljana, you can be heading towards Alpine lakes, the Adriatic coast, eastern Slovenian cities, thermal resorts or another country within the same day.
Ljubljana's main bus and railway stations sit beside each other, which makes public transport particularly useful for many intercity journeys.
Road travel becomes more attractive when the destination has weaker public transport, when several people travel together, or when door-to-door convenience matters.
The clever choice is not always a taxi. The clever choice is the transport that fits the route.
Ways to travel from Ljubljana
🚌
Bus
Bus is one of the strongest public transport options from Ljubljana.
Popular tourist routes such as Ljubljana → Bled and Ljubljana → Bohinj can be very practical by regular bus.
For solo travellers, it is often difficult to beat public transport on price.
Often best for budget travel🚆
Train
Train works especially well for destinations on Slovenia's main railway corridors, including cities such as Celje and Maribor.
For Bled, the main-line station is Lesce-Bled, which still requires a local connection to Lake Bled.
For Bohinj, rail travel can be useful through Bohinjska Bistrica.
Strong for major railway routes🚐
Shared shuttle
Shared shuttle services such as GoOpti can be useful for airports and some longer-distance journeys.
For one or two passengers, a shared seat may be much cheaper than reserving a complete private vehicle.
Always compare shared-seat pricing with the price of a private shuttle separately.
Useful for airports and flexible travellers🚗
Rental car
A rental car is useful when several destinations are part of the same trip.
Bled, Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, the coast and smaller rural destinations are much easier to combine independently by car.
For central Ljubljana itself, remember that much of the old town is pedestrianised.
Best for multi-stop journeys🚖
City taxi
For immediate journeys within Ljubljana or shorter routes, a currently available city taxi is often the simplest solution.
For longer journeys, agree the total price before departure.
Good for immediate local travel⭐
Pre-booked private transfer
Private transfer makes more sense for longer destinations, groups, families, lots of luggage or journeys where timing matters.
Taxi Legende works mainly by advance booking, with the route, vehicle and final price agreed beforehand.
Best for planned door-to-door travel

Ljubljana city and Ljubljana Airport are not the same starting point
This page is about travelling from Ljubljana city.
Ljubljana Airport, also known locally as Brnik and officially as Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, is outside the city.
That matters because routes can change considerably.
For example, Bled is closer to Ljubljana Airport than it is to Ljubljana city, while other destinations may require a different road direction entirely.
Always tell us whether the pickup is Ljubljana city or Ljubljana Airport. “Ljubljana” alone can mean 25 kilometres of difference.
Why use a private transfer if the train or bus is cheaper?
Sometimes you should not.
If you are travelling alone from Ljubljana to Celje, a train can be a very sensible choice.
If you are going to Bled with one backpack, a regular bus can save a lot of money.
Private transfer becomes more useful when you have:
several passengers
lots of luggage
children
sports equipment
an early departure
a difficult final address
several stops
a fixed arrival time
We sell private transfers. We do not need to pretend public transport stopped existing. 😄
Direct booking or a platform?
Shared shuttle platforms can be excellent value, especially for one passenger.
Taxi Legende works as a direct booking.
Before pickup, we can confirm the driver, vehicle and registration number.
And if a wallet, phone, bag, jacket or suitcase remains in the car, you know who drove you and who to contact.
A shared seat and a reserved private vehicle are different products.
The Legende rule
Ljubljana “right now”?
“Hello, we need to leave Ljubljana for Bled in ten minutes.”
Sometimes there is a vehicle. Sometimes there isn't. 😄
Taxi Legende works mainly with advance-booked private transfers.
For longer routes, we prefer to know the date, pickup address, destination, passengers and luggage before the journey.
If you need an immediate short city taxi, another currently available Ljubljana taxi may be the better answer.
Known route. Known car. Known price. No “now-now”.
Who are Taxi Legende?
Taxi Legende is a Ljubljana-based private transfer service working mainly by advance reservation.
We provide airport, longer-distance and international journeys around Slovenia and neighbouring countries.
Cars and vans are selected according to passenger count and luggage.
We are not a booking marketplace. Your journey is arranged directly with us.
And if bus, train, shared shuttle or rental car makes more sense for your trip, we are happy to say so.
Advance booking recommended · Final price confirmed before booking.

Ljubljana airport landing - Welcome
January-18-2014
When arriving in Slovenia by plane, most travellers land at the country’s main international gateway – Ljubljana Airport (Jože Pučnik Airport Brnik). After landing, one of the first questions is how to get from Ljubljana Airport to your final destination. Whether you are travelling to Ljubljana city, Bled, Bohinj or the Slovenian coast, there are several transport options available.
1. Airport taxi (fast but expensive)
Right outside the terminal, you will find official airport taxis waiting. This is the quickest way to leave the airport, but also the most expensive option. A Ljubljana Airport taxi to Ljubljana city (approximately 25 km) usually costs between €50 and €80, depending on traffic, time of day and pricing conditions. Prices are not always fixed, which c
